The best time to visit Great Bear Lake is during the short Arctic summer, from late June through August, when the ice has melted and fishing lodges operate at full capacity. During this time, visitors experience 24-hour daylight, making it possible to fish and explore almost around the clock. Winter, from December to March, is ideal for those seeking northern lights displays and unique ice-based adventures. However, access is more difficult in winter, requiring charter flights or specialized guides. Shoulder seasons, when ice is forming or breaking up, are generally avoided for safety reasons.
