The village was first built in the 1960s as a planned community, but it never really grew big.
There are fewer than 40 houses in the entire village, making it one of the smallest communities in Texas.
SpaceX officially renamed the area “Starbase” in 2021, though the old name still sticks with locals.
During rocket testing, the whole area sometimes shakes like a mini earthquake.
Boca Chica Beach is one of the last undeveloped beaches in Texas, stretching for miles with no buildings.
The village sits only about two miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border.
Wildlife like sea turtles, ocelots, and rare birds share the land with rocket engineers.
Some of the old houses now have murals and quirky decorations tied to the space theme.
The road to Boca Chica dead-ends into the ocean—it’s literally as far southeast as you can drive in Texas.
