The capital city is Gitega, which also has a rich cultural vibe. It became the political capital in 2019, taking over from Bujumbura. Gitega has museums, cultural centers, and local markets that give visitors a real taste of Burundian life. The city is surrounded by rolling hills, so even urban areas feel connected to nature. It’s a smaller city, so getting around is pretty easy compared to bigger African capitals.
