The capital city of Laos is Vientiane. It’s a laid-back city along the Mekong River, with a mix of French colonial architecture and traditional temples. Popular spots include the golden Pha That Luang stupa and Patuxai, a victory monument reminiscent of the Arc de Triomphe. Vientiane isn’t crowded like other Southeast Asian capitals, so it’s easy to explore by foot or bike. The city also has a cool night market for food, souvenirs, and local crafts.
