Why is it called Scotland Yard if it’s in London?

The name comes from the street where the original police HQ was built in the 1800s—Great Scotland Yard. That street name itself had older roots, possibly tied to Scottish royalty having lodgings there centuries earlier. When the police outgrew the space and moved, they kept the famous name. So, it’s less about Scotland and more about tradition and branding. Kind of like how Madison Square Garden isn’t in a square anymore, but the name still lives on.
