SNAP Benefit Cuts Spark Fears Among Vulnerable Americans

New changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) took effect nationwide, following the passage of the "One Big, Beautiful Bill Act of 2025." The reforms impose strict work requirements—20 hours per week—for able-bodied adults without dependents, expanding eligibility risks to groups like veterans and those aged 55–64. Advocacy groups warn that millions of low-income households may lose vital food support as a result. Although some exemptions remain, many families say they are already feeling the impact of reduced benefits. Projections show the legislation could cut roughly $186 billion from SNAP by 2034, raising concerns over growing food insecurity.
