Israel Announces New Embassy in Jerusalem and Advances Laser Defense Capability

On September 17, Fiji became the seventh country to open an embassy to Israel in Jerusalem, marking another shift in global diplomatic alignments. On the same day, Israel declared its “Iron Beam” high-powered laser defense system operational, intended to counter drones and missiles. These developments come amid Israel’s broader efforts to strengthen its defense infrastructure and absorb shifting regional politics. The expansions also deepen controversy, given ongoing conflicts in Gaza and international debates over sovereignty, security, and human rights. Israel expects the new defense capability to affect both tactical operations and its deterrence posture significantly.
