The Buddhas of Bamiyan were two monumental statues carved into the cliffs of the Bamiyan Valley in central Afghanistan. Built in the 6th century, they stood as a testament to Afghanistan's rich Buddhist heritage. Tragically, they were destroyed in 2001 by the Taliban, but they remain a symbol of the country's diverse cultural history and the challenges of preserving heritage amidst conflict.
