Most people in the tourist areas speak English pretty well, especially younger folks and anyone in the travel or restaurant business. Out in smaller villages, it might be a little trickier, but you’ll still find people willing to help. The Greek alphabet can look intimidating, but a lot of signs in busy areas are also in English. It’s nice to learn a few Greek phrases like “kalimera” for good morning or “efharisto” for thank you. Locals usually appreciate the effort, even if your accent isn’t perfect. Overall, you’ll get by just fine without knowing much Greek.
