Europa League Opens with Drama: Forest Stuns Betis, Celtic Held

Nottingham Forest made a spectacular return to European competition by drawing 2-2 away at Real Betis, with Igor Jesus scoring twice in the first half. Betis fought back late, and Antony’s 85th-minute goal secured the share of the spoils. Elsewhere in the same round, Celtic were held 1-1 in Serbia by Red Star Belgrade, as Iheanacho’s opener was canceled out by Arnautović. Other standout results included wins for Roma, Dinamo Zagreb, Freiburg, Ludogorets and Braga. Clubs across Europe managed tight rotations given domestic league pressures. The opener showed the depth and unpredictability inherent in the new Europa League format.
