Global equity markets dive as hopes for a December rate cut fade

Global stock indexes suffered their largest one-day drop in over a month, driven by a sharp pullback in technology stocks and fading expectations for a Federal Reserve rate reduction. Bond yields climbed as investors reacted to signals from Fed officials that further cuts may not be imminent, stirring concerns about inflation and economic strength. In the U.S., the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both closed down more than 1.6%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by about 1.7%. Market watchers noted that the reopening of the federal government after a record-setting shutdown still leaves major data gaps in monthly economic statistics. With valuation concerns mounting, investors shifted away from risk assets and sought more defensive positions.
