Where was Benjamin Franklin born and what was his early life like?

Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts, into a large working-class family of 17 children. His father was a candle and soap maker, so money was tight, and Franklin had to work from a young age. He left school early and became an apprentice in a printing shop. Even without much formal education, he read constantly and taught himself everything from science to philosophy. He moved to Philadelphia as a teenager to find more opportunity. That move changed his life and eventually made him a major public figure.
