Johnny Depp didn’t actually plan to be an actor — he wanted to be a rock musician. He moved to Los Angeles with his band and ended up getting introduced to acting through Nicolas Cage. Depp landed his first real movie role in “A Nightmare on Elm Street” in 1984. People noticed his looks, but he wanted deeper, more unusual characters instead of the typical Hollywood pretty boy roles. He got his big break on TV with “21 Jump Street,” but he felt stuck in teen idol land. So he pivoted toward weird and artsy films that fit his personality much better.
