Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway when he was only 18 years old. Anne was several years older, and the marriage happened quickly because she was already expecting. They had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. Their son Hamnet died at age 11, which many scholars think influenced Shakespeare’s writing. Even with his London career, he kept a family home in Stratford. Some letters and records show he visited often and supported them financially. After retiring from theatre, he returned to Stratford and lived there until his death.
