In Denmark, Christmas — or *Jul* — emphasises **hygge** (cozy togetherness), candlelight and family traditions throughout December. Homes are decorated with lights, ornaments and often glowing Advent wreaths as families count down to Christmas Eve. On **Christmas Eve (Juleaften)**, families gather for a special dinner that might include roast pork, duck and risalamande — rice pudding with a hidden almond that brings good luck to the finder. Danes often dance around the Christmas tree before or after dinner and sing carols together. The Danish “Christmas Man” *Julemanden* brings gifts to children, sometimes continuing older folklore about farm spirits called *Nisser* who are appeased with bowls of rice porridge. Christmas markets, music and seasonal foods fill public spaces in towns throughout December. Danish Christmas blends warm family customs with festive communal experiences.
