The name Santa Claus comes from the Dutch name Sinterklaas. Sinterklaas was the Dutch version of Saint Nicholas. Dutch settlers brought the tradition to early America. Over time, the pronunciation slowly changed. English speakers adapted the name to Santa Claus. The new name stuck and became widely used. Books and poems helped spread it further. Today, Santa Claus is recognized around the world.
