While Christmas is celebrated on December 25th, most scholars agree that this date is unlikely to be historically accurate. The choice of December 25th was influenced by Roman festivals, such as Sol Invictus, and not by historical records.

Historians estimate that Jesus was probably born between 6 and 4 BCE. This conclusion comes from references in the Gospels to King Herod the Great, who died in 4 BCE. The Gospel of Matthew mentions Herod ordering the Massacre of the Innocents, which means Jesus must have been born before Herod’s death.

Thus, the details of Jesus’ birth may reflect symbolic storytelling rather than an exact historical record. The celebration of Christmas on December 25th became widespread only in the 4th century.
