The Sinai Peninsula is a triangular landmass in northeastern Egypt that connects Africa and Asia, bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Red Sea to the south. It sits between the Gulf of Suez on the west and the Gulf of Aqaba on the east, forming a strategic geographic link between continents. Most of the region is arid and desert‑like, with rugged mountains in the south and plateau plains toward the north. It is administratively divided into North Sinai and South Sinai governorates, with towns like El‑Arish, Sharm el‑Sheikh and Taba dotting the landscape. The area’s terrain includes high mountain peaks such as Mount Catherine and valleys that are popular with trekkers. The peninsula’s location has made it historically significant for trade routes and military campaigns over centuries. Today, it remains a region of both natural beauty and geopolitical importance.
