Montmartre is a historic and picturesque neighbourhood located on a hill in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, France. It is famous for its bohemian past, having been home to artists, writers, and musicians since the 19th century. The area is characterised by cobbled streets, charming cafés, and panoramic views over the city from its highest point. Montmartre’s most iconic landmark is the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur, a white-domed church perched at the summit of the Butte Montmartre. Nearby squares like Place du Tertre still evoke the artistic spirit with painters displaying their work to visitors. The neighbourhood retains much of its village-like charm despite being part of a major world capital. Montmartre continues to be one of Paris’s most-visited districts for culture, history, and scenery.
