Is photography allowed inside the AMNH?

If you want to snap pics inside AMNH, you’re usually totally allowed to take photos for personal use with your phone or handheld camera. That means you can take pics of exhibits, fossils, and displays to remember your trip or share on social. There are a few places like the Space Theater or special film halls where flash or video might not be allowed, so always check signs to be respectful. Selfie sticks, tripods, and professional lighting gear aren’t permitted, mainly to keep crowds moving and protect the exhibits. Most people happily shoot photos of the dinosaur fossils, planetarium displays, and massive dioramas showing animals in their natural scenes. Just remember that eating or drinking while wandering the galleries isn’t allowed. This makes it fun to document your visit but also keeps the space safe and comfortable for everyone.
