St. George’s Chapel is important because it’s closely tied to the British monarchy, royal ceremonies and centuries of English tradition. It’s the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, a chivalric order founded in 1348 that still holds an annual service each June attended by the Sovereign and knights. The chapel is also a famous royal burial site, where many monarchs like Edward IV, Henry VI and more recently Queen Elizabeth II were laid to rest. Some members of the royal family have had weddings here too, including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018. Beyond ceremonies, the chapel’s architecture and age make it a symbol of medieval and royal heritage that’s still active today. Even many historians and tourists see it as one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England. Visiting the chapel is almost like walking through pages of British history from different eras all in one place.
