What’s Lucas Oil Stadium and why is it so famous?

Lucas Oil Stadium is a massive sports and events venue in Indianapolis that opened back in 2008 as the home of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. It’s famous for its huge retractable roof that can open or close in about 11 minutes, which is pretty wild for a big stadium. The place seats over 60,000 people for football and can expand even more for big concerts or basketball games. Fans also know it for hosting lots of major events like the NFL Scouting Combine, Monster Jam, and NCAA Final Four weekends. Tons of concerts, conventions, and band competitions happen here too, making it way more than just a football stadium. It’s also connected by an underground skywalk to the Indiana Convention Center right downtown. If you’re in Indy for a big event, Lucas Oil is almost always part of the action.
