There’s been chatter recently about Arsenal potentially expanding Emirates Stadium’s capacity to make it even bigger and bring in more fans — with talk of moving from around 60,700 seats to maybe nearer 70,000 or more in the future as demand stays high. The idea is to make the ground one of the largest in London again and give more supporters the chance to be at games, especially since tens of thousands are on season ticket waiting lists. Any changes would be pretty major and might even mean temporary moves or construction work, but at this stage it’s still in the talking and planning phases rather than a set plan. Fans and fan groups are keen that if expansion happens, it doesn’t make tickets so pricey that regular supporters get priced out of going to matches. The club has been making smaller upgrades already — from new screens to more food and drink options — so improving the Emirates bit by bit seems to be part of the plan. Whatever does happen, it’ll probably stir loads of debate among supporters and locals just like any big change to a historic football home. For now though, the focus is still on big matchdays and packed crowds inside the current stadium.
