Why do they need an Electoral College to elect the president? A simple answer!

Posted on Oct 20, 2024 / Politics / USA

The Electoral College is a historical rudiment anchored in the US Constitution.

The reason for establishing the Electoral College back in 1787 was a need for compromise, balancing between direct public vote and appointment of the president by the Congress.

Today everyone agrees that the Electoral College is a violation of democracy, because in a true democracy the public vote count would have decided who'd become the next president. But despite its not very democratic nature, this historical compromise still wins the battle against the democracy and common sense.
