This well known county is named after General Clement Anselm Evans (1832-1911), a hero of the American Civil War; the commander in chief of the United Confederate Veterans. The county seat of Evans County is Claxton. The county's area is about 185 square miles. Established in 1914, today Evans County is home to 11 thousand residents.
