Hertford County is situated in the northeastern section of North Carolina. The county is named after Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Marquess of Hertford (1718-1794). The area of Hertford County is about 360 square miles. The county was set up in 1759 from Bertie County, Chowan County, and Northampton County, and it is populated today by 21 thousand residents.
