Pender County is situated in the southern coastal region of North Carolina. The county is named after William Dorsey Pender (1834-1863), Confederate soldier who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg of the American Civil War. The area of Pender County is about 933 square miles. The county was set up in 1875 from New Hanover County, and it is populated today by 63 thousand residents.
