U.S. intelligence sources say China, Iran, and Russia are trying to interfere in the upcoming presidential election to provoke violence.
Efforts by U.S. adversaries to sow discord and mistrust in the upcoming presidential election are already beginning to intensify, senior U.S. intelligence officials warn, adding that some countries may be taking additional steps to provoke election-related violence.
The latest declassified assessment, released Tuesday by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), comes just two weeks before voters head to the polls on Nov. 5 to choose a new president and cast ballots on a range of statewide and local ballot initiatives.
“Foreign actors — particularly Russia, Iran, and China — continue to seek ways to exacerbate divisions to divide Americans and undermine confidence in the U.S. democratic system, consistent with what they perceive to be their interests,” the document says.
