Netanyahu aide among detainees

Israel has arrested several suspects in connection with a leak of intelligence information about military plans, Haaretz reported on November 1, citing court documents in the city of Rishon LeZion.

The documents say that the leaked intelligence compromised "sensitive information and intelligence sources, and harmed efforts to achieve the war's goals in the Gaza Strip," according to the American publication Axios.

Haaretz claims that one of those detained in the investigation is connected to the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and worked closely with him during the war. According to Israeli officials Axios spoke to, the man is a close aide to Netanyahu who did not officially work for the Prime Minister's Office.

Benjamin Netanyahu denied that anyone from the Prime Minister's Office was arrested. "No one from the Prime Minister's Office was questioned or arrested," he said in a statement. Netanyahu added that the leak did not come from the Prime Minister's Office, but from other government bodies.

The investigation began after the German tabloid Bild published a classified Israeli intelligence report in September. The report described a document that allegedly showed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar outlining the terror group's strategy for hostage negotiations and a ceasefire. The investigation was conducted by Israel's Shin Bet intelligence agency, the police, and the Israel Defense Forces.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation in October after the Pentagon leaked highly classified intelligence that suggested Israel was planning to strike Iran, US media reported on October 19. The leaked documents, dated October 15 and 16, appeared on a pro-Iran Telegram channel. According to The Times, the leak prompted Israel to postpone the strike on Iran. The Israel Defense Forces struck Iranian military targets on the night of October 26.
