Why is Philadelphia called the City of Brotherly Love?

The name actually comes from the Greek words *philos* (love) and *adelphos* (brother), which together mean “brotherly love.” It was named by William Penn, the city’s founder, who envisioned a place where people of all faiths could live in peace. Over time, the nickname stuck, and even today, locals take pride in that spirit. Of course, Philly's got attitude too, but deep down—it’s got heart. Just don’t mess with our sports teams.
