Area 51 was established in the 1950s as a remote testing site for the U-2 spy plane program during the Cold War. The location was chosen for its isolation, clear skies, and vast open space, ideal for top-secret flight tests. Over time, the base expanded to support other classified aircraft and weapons development programs. Its existence was denied or ignored by the U.S. government until 2013, when the CIA formally acknowledged it. The base has played a crucial role in advancing American aerospace technology. Despite decades of secrecy, Area 51 has become part of both military history and pop culture.
