Who built the Taj Mahal and why?

The Taj Mahal was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631 during childbirth. Construction began the following year and took more than 20 years to complete. The monument stands as a powerful symbol of eternal love and devotion.
