Cool facts about the Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. It changes color depending on the time of day and moonlight. Over 20,000 artisans from across Asia worked on it. The minarets are built to lean slightly outward to protect the tomb in case of collapse. It took 22 years to complete, using marble from Makrana in Rajasthan. The monument is perfectly symmetrical, except for Shah Jahan's own tomb. The central dome is 73 meters high and took years to perfect. Semi-precious stones inlaid in the marble form intricate floral patterns.
