The Europe-Asia border is complex because there is no natural ocean or sea separating them, unlike other continents. Instead, the division relies on various mountain ranges, rivers, and seas, which makes the border somewhat arbitrary. Additionally, cultural, historical, and political factors have influenced where the boundary is drawn. Over centuries, different maps and scholars have placed the border in slightly different locations. The fluid nature of this boundary reflects the interconnectedness of the two continents and their shared history. As a result, countries like Russia and Turkey are considered transcontinental, spanning both Europe and Asia.
