Why is the Jurassic Coast called so?

The name "Jurassic Coast" comes from the Jurassic period, one of the three geological time periods represented in the area. While all three — Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous — are found here, the Jurassic strata are particularly well-exposed and contain an abundance of fossils. These layers tell the story of Earth’s development and the evolution of life during the Mesozoic Era.
