Cool facts about Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall opened in 1891 with a concert conducted by Tchaikovsky himself. It was originally located further north than most of the city’s theaters, but its success helped develop the Midtown arts district. The famous joke "Practice, practice, practice" stems from a supposed exchange with a passerby asking how to get to Carnegie Hall. The Beatles played there in 1964 during their first U.S. tour. Carnegie Hall has over 250 concerts each year and remains one of the most prestigious venues in the world. The hall was saved from demolition in the 1960s thanks in part to violinist Isaac Stern, after whom the main auditorium is now named.
