One World Trade Center has the tallest elevator ride in the Western Hemisphere, reaching the top in under 60 seconds. The building’s spire includes an aircraft warning light visible from over 50 miles away. Its base is clad in ultra-durable glass-reinforced concrete panels to enhance security. The building generates a portion of its own energy and uses rainwater to cool mechanical systems. Designed to withstand earthquakes and high winds, it has one of the most advanced safety systems in any skyscraper. The exact height of 1,776 feet is a deliberate reference to the U.S. Declaration of Independence. The tower's foundation extends over 70 feet below street level to anchor it firmly into Manhattan’s bedrock.
