Cool facts about Cahokia

Cahokia was the largest pre-Columbian city north of Mexico, located near present-day St. Louis. At its peak, around 1100 AD, it had a population of up to 20,000 people. Monk’s Mound is the largest earthen structure in the Americas, standing about 100 feet tall. Cahokia was a major center for trade, politics, and religion in the Mississippian culture. The city had a sophisticated layout with plazas, residential areas, and ceremonial spaces. It was mysteriously abandoned around 1350. Cahokia is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a key part of Native American heritage.
