Cool facts about the Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower was originally meant to be dismantled after 20 years. It became useful as a radio tower and was thus preserved. It grows taller by about 6 inches in summer due to metal expansion. The tower has 1,665 steps to the top, though most people use the elevator. It was the world’s tallest structure until the Chrysler Building was completed in 1930. Gustave Eiffel had a small secret apartment at the top. The Eiffel Tower is repainted every 7 years, requiring around 60 tons of paint. It sparkles for five minutes every hour at night thanks to 20,000 light bulbs.
