Loch Ness is extremely deep, reaching depths of about 745 feet (227 meters). This makes it the second-deepest loch in Scotland after Loch Morar. Its massive depth, combined with its length, means it holds more freshwater than all the lakes in England and Wales combined. The dark, peaty water reduces visibility, adding to its aura of mystery. This depth makes it an ideal setting for legends of hidden creatures. Scientists still study the loch to understand its unique environment.
