The Isle of Man has its own government, headed by the Chief Minister, and a parliament called the Tynwald. Tynwald consists of the House of Keys and the Legislative Council and has legislative authority over most internal matters. The island maintains autonomy in areas such as taxation, education, and health care. The UK government is responsible for defense and international relations but does not interfere in domestic policies. Local laws are made by Tynwald and are unique to the island. The government structure allows for both self-rule and cooperation with the United Kingdom.
