Madagascar is home to some of the world’s most unique wildlife, with a high level of endemism. Lemurs are perhaps the most famous animals, with over 100 species living only on the island. Other endemic species include chameleons, tenrecs, fossa, and various birds and reptiles. Madagascar’s marine life is equally diverse, with coral reefs, tropical fish, and sea turtles. The island’s plant life is remarkable, including baobab trees and various orchids. Many species are threatened by habitat loss and human activity. Conservation efforts focus on protecting wildlife and natural habitats.
