JFK Airport originally opened as Idlewild Airport in 1948. It was renamed John F. Kennedy International Airport in December 1963, shortly after the assassination of President Kennedy. The airport has since expanded with multiple terminals, runways, and modern facilities. It was designed to handle the increasing number of international travelers and cargo flights. Over the decades, JFK has become a symbol of global connectivity for New York City. Its development reflects the growth of commercial aviation in the United States.
