Pearl Harbor was attacked on the morning of December 7, 1941. The Japanese military launched a surprise airstrike aimed at disabling the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Over 350 Japanese aircraft participated in the attack, targeting battleships, aircraft, and airfields. The attack lasted approximately two hours but caused massive damage and loss of life. More than 2,400 Americans were killed, and over 1,000 were wounded. The event is remembered annually as a solemn day in U.S. history. President Franklin D. Roosevelt famously called it "a date which will live in infamy."
