The Brandenburg Gate was constructed between 1788 and 1791 by order of King Frederick William II of Prussia. It was designed by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans in a neoclassical style inspired by the Propylaea in Athens. The Quadriga sculpture, representing the goddess of victory, was added shortly after completion. The gate has witnessed major historical events over the centuries, from Napoleon’s conquest to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
