Lake Titicaca is home to unique wildlife adapted to high-altitude conditions. Native fish species include the Titicaca orestias and catfish, while birds such as Andean gulls, giant coots, and herons inhabit the lake. The lake is also home to the endemic Titicaca water frog, which can grow unusually large. Aquatic plants, including totora reeds, provide habitat and building materials for local communities. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect endangered species and maintain the lake’s ecological balance. Wildlife observation is a popular activity for nature enthusiasts visiting the area.
