San Marino is the world’s fifth smallest country and the third smallest in Europe.
The country has its own national football team, even though it’s tiny.
It has no airport; the closest airports are in Italy, usually Rimini or Bologna.
San Marino issues its own stamps and coins, which are popular with collectors.
The country has a unique government system with two Captains Regent elected every six months.
It was never conquered by Napoleon, the Romans, or any major power for centuries.
The historic center and Mount Titano are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
There’s a special “Tourist Passport Stamp” available in some shops, even though official border control is through Italy.
The Guaita Tower, the oldest of the three towers, dates back to the 11th century and is still standing strong.
