Egyptian food is hearty and flavorful, with lots of vegetarian-friendly options too. You have to try koshari, which is a mix of pasta, rice, lentils, and spicy tomato sauce. Falafel (called taameya in Egypt) is made with fava beans instead of chickpeas, and it tastes amazing. Shawarma and grilled meats are easy to find, plus fresh bread called “baladi” is served with almost every meal. And don’t skip desserts like basbousa or konafa with sweet syrup and nuts.
