Portuguese cuisine is tasty and hearty. You’ve got to try pastéis de nata, the famous custard tarts, and bacalhau, which is dried and salted cod prepared in tons of ways. Seafood lovers are in paradise with fresh sardines, octopus, and shellfish. Piri-piri chicken is a spicy favorite, and the cheeses and pastries in local markets are awesome. Pair meals with local wine or a glass of ginjinha, a cherry liqueur. Food is a big part of the Portugal experience.
