Social Security Moves Entirely to Electronic Payments by September 30

Starting September 30, recipients of Social Security Retirement, SSI, and SSDI benefits must switch to direct deposit or an approved prepaid debit card system—paper checks will no longer be issued. This change, part of a Trump-era executive order signed in March, aims to cut fraud, reduce costs, and improve security. The Social Security Administration is offering assistance via its website, phone lines, and local offices, with flexibility for those facing hardship. With nearly 68 million Americans already receiving payments electronically, the transition seeks to modernize benefit delivery nationwide. Anyone still using paper checks is urged to act quickly to avoid disruptions in their benefits.
